Most Common Red Meat Myths DEBUNKED!
The #1 Diet Rule You Should Ignore: http://ift.tt/2EtlsGN Check Out Thomas' Channel: http://ift.tt/2wrY6yd Hey guys it's Thomas here, creator of Science Based Six Pack Abs and your fasting expert, but today I'm talking about proteins in general...and the myths about them that may or may not be true. If you haven't already, check out my Science Based Six Pack Abs program: http://ift.tt/2EtlsGN So let's get to it... Now as you may already know, I'm not big on getting copious amounts of protein...I'm big on doing the most with the least. 0:37 We've concluded that 0.6 - 0.8g / lb of bodyweight is perfectly sufficient when it comes down to having enough protein to build the muscle, and ultimately stay in shape. Let me start out by saying this... Meat is hard to break down. It's hard on the body in the first place, and we don't require a lot to begin with. But today, I want to talk about red meat and some of the myths that come with it. 1:37 A 2004 Harvard School of Public Health analysis involving over 725,000 men and women showed no relationship between meat and colon cancer. So where does the cancer myth come from? 1:59 Hetrocyclic amines (HAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are formed when meat is overcooked, and they've been shown to promote cancer growth in a few animal studies. Next up is the effect of protein in inflammation. It has to do with something known as Neu5Gc. Now when people say red meat is more inflammatory than other meats, they're completely confused. 3:52 Neu5Gc is a monosaccharide that acts as a type of signaling molecule in mammalian cells. 5:41 Arachidonic acid (AA) is often cited as a source of inflammation, and because AA is found primarily in eggs and meat, this concern could contribute to the view that red meat is inflammatory. 6:24 AA contributed by meat products is delivered in a nicely balanced package of omega-3's. So I hope this clears up some of the confusion!
