He was born in New York City and grew up in Chicago with his aunt. Money was very tight for him as a teenager, so he worked jobs like mowing lawns and washing dishes to pay for school. Even though his father told him he would never amount to anything, Larry used that as fuel to work harder. He eventually taught himself how to code and moved to California to find a better life in the tech world. ✎ In 1977, Larry Ellison co-founded Oracle with his partners Bob Miner and Ed Oats. They started the company with only two thousand dollars and worked out of a tiny office. At first, many experts and investors doubted them and said no one would pay for their database software. Their big break came when IBM decided to use their product, which proved to the world that their technology really worked. Even when the company almost went bankrupt in 1990, Larry refused to quit and led his team back to the top of the software industry. ✎ Today, Larry Ellison has a net worth of hundreds of billions of dollars and has even competed with Elon Musk for the title of the richest person on earth.
