After he lost his job in 1512, he wrote a famous book called The Prince to show leaders how to get respect by being sneaky and ruthless. Machiavelli taught that it is better to be feared than loved because love is easily broken, but fear lasts. Successful rulers must also appear perfect, honest, and religious on the outside, just like King Ferdinand of Aragon did when he used religion to hide his greedy actions. A smart leader accepts the brutal reality of the world and acts ruthlessly when necessary, which is what Mark Zuckerberg did when Instagram copied Snapchat to protect its social media business. ✎ Building wealth on a low income requires these same powerful strategies, as shown by the story of Ronald Reed, a gas station attendant and janitor who secretly accumulated almost 8 million dollars.
